The Dark Side of the Chain? Governing and Auditing Mutual Distributed Ledger (aka blockchain) Systems

Tuesday, 23 May 2017, 09:30-17:00,
The Chartered Insurance Institute

A Long Finance Conference delivered by Z/Yen Kindly Sponsored by

This conference brought together 17 specialists from the business, legal and academic sectors to explore the systemic, legal and technical challenges surrounding the governance of distributed ledger technology.

Before an audience of 100, in the grand surroundings of the Chartered Insurance Institute Great Hall, our experts discussed issues ranging from asset bubbles and Ricardian Contracts to human trafficking and cyberwarfare.

Whilst it was agreed that the technology was still at an early stage of maturity, and skepticism was expressed regarding some recent Initial Coin Offerings (which were described as “waiting for a regulatory hammer to fall”), it was agreed that the sector still held enormous promise, providing the issue of governance was effectively addressed.

The conference concluded on a positive note, by identifying a need to reconcile the truth on blockchains with the truth in the real world. As a result, “Reality Auditors” may well step from the pages of science fiction into the science  fact of Long Finance.

Both the visual and oral parts of our keynote speakers' presentations can be found below, along with the conference proceedings  and a feedback overview .
